Indiana Wesleyan University invites applications for a permanent, full-time, open-rank faculty appointment in humanities and history in its John Wesley Honors College (JWHC) to start in August 2016. The successful candidate must hold an earned doctorate in history or a related field (such as patristics or historical theology) and should be a promising/accomplished scholar and teacher in his or her area of specialty. Likewise, he or she should have a strong interest in participating in an interdisciplinary learning community devoted to the big questions and to the intersections of faith and liberal learning. Due to the nature and needs of the JWHC’s honors humanities curriculum, preference will be given—but not limited to—historians specializing in the ancient, medieval or early modern periods, as well as to those interested in relating their disciplinary pedagogy to questions of race, class and/or gender.
Applicants must have an active Christian faith, a commitment to serving in an intensive Christian community of liberal learning, and a self-reflective spirit of interdisciplinary collaboration. Salary and faculty rank are dependent upon educational qualifications and experience. Applicants with an exceptionally accomplished record of teaching and scholarship may be hired as a “Senior Scholar,” a position that includes annual research loading and a generous research budget.
Interested candidates should send a CV and letter of interest to David Riggs, Executive Director of the John Wesley Honors College (david.riggs@indwes.edu). Review of candidates will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled or the search is terminated. Do not send supplemental materials to IWU until requested. Candidates will be contacted personally with additional application instructions if needed.
