The Augustinian Institute at Villanova University invites applications for the Thomas F. Martin Saint Augustine Fellowship for the Fall 2017 semester.

Each Fall semester Villanova University invites a scholar both to engage in his/her own research and to make it available to the university community by participating in varied conversations – with faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, and other scholars in the region.

Responsibilities of the recipient of the Thomas F. Martin Saint Augustine Fellowship include collaboration with students and faculty on matters that concern the understanding and communication of Augustinian ideas and ideals. That requires some availability for informal conversations (office hours), leading 2 seminars with faculty and/or graduate students, giving a public lecture on a topic relating to present research; and participation in the work-in-progress of the Augustinian Institute.

The semester stipend for a St. Augustine Fellow is $40,000. The Augustinian Institute rents a house for the semester – a benefit that is subject to federal tax law as imputed income to the Fellow. Medical benefits are provided by Villanova University.

This fellowship is open to a tenured scholar whose experience and publication record has made him/her known within the community of Augustine scholars. Applicants whose expertise is centered on the life and thought of Saint Augustine may be given preference, but applications that relate to the influence of Augustine will also be accepted.
